Let's Take Better Phone Photos: A Better Angle!
Let’s Take Better Phone Photos … A Series … There are literally a million different things we can do to take better phone photos, but let’s be honest the angle of the photo truly makes a world of difference. It is the difference maker in most things. This blog is about about a subject angle, meaning the height of the subject. So, let’s look at the DON’T then we will look at the DO! … + I added a little “Skinny” tip & a few etiquette tips!
Don’t:
Put Your Camera Lower Than Your Subject’s Head!
We have all asked someone to take a photo of us & 9 times out 10 they will drop the phone towards their belly button to shoot. & unless you are 7’5” to were you tower over everyone this is honestly not a good angle. It never fails when we are taking photos of people, objects or even dogs. We either put the camera WAY TOO above their head or we hold the camera by our own belly button. So, here is the deal! When we do that we not only take away the natural shape of the subject. & honestly people tend to feel like this will make them look “skinnier”, but in all honesty this adds width to the top or the bottom of the photo. & honestly I would rather the phone be too high than too low, especially when you are capturing people. There are other ways we can look skinner, keep reading I have list that below.
Do:
Level The Camera With The Subject
, or you can go a touch higher (for people) . To keep your camera in natural possession then make sure the camera is level to the subjects head. Go straight on. Even if that means you have to move your arms up higher, squat down or what not, then do that. With dogs squat to their level. With Kids squat down. With people move your arms up. You get the point. The camera will take the photo, but there is some work you have to put in on the back in to make the photo come out great.
*SKINNY TIP*
ONCE, & only once the camera is level with the person or people’s heads then simply tilt the top part of the phone towards the people. Not too much, but just a little. This will keep the person or people’s natural body shape, but will get ride of the things that tend to widen in photos.
*Artistic Tip*
If you do want to go lower than that person’s head to add a touch of “Artistic Vibes” have that person lean a touch towards to the camera. This will create that vibe you are going for, but will leave their natural body into possession without adding extra pounds.
Angles, are honestly huge. They can add or take away in the photos. Practice truly does make perfect. Practice on your family or even your dog. & if you pass your phone off to someone who is taking a photo for you never be rude, but kindly ask them, “Do you mind taking a photo for me, but at this level.” Then hand them the phone. Don’t hand the phone then say, “No, that’s wrong do it at the level.” Never make them feel stupid, but it never hurts to ask. SIDE NOTE: Anytime you ask someone take to take your photo you should always ask them if they would like you to take theirs. It’s a memory you are getting to receive for you, but they get to receive a precious memory as well. Plus, kindness passes on.
