Tips For Shooting In Sunny Weather

SunnyWeather.jpg

Oh beautiful sunshine, you are truly my most favorite weather to shoot in. I LOVE sunshine. It glows, it brightens & it truly adds something magical and special to photos. However, just like cloudy weather, sunny weather you have to navigate just as much. & honestly we could sit here and say just do the opposite of a cloudy day, but each weather category is a field of its own. So, let’s dive in.

Tip #1 - Using the Sun

So, on sunny days there might be times that you simply cannot get away from the sun or there might not be any helpful shadows. Let’s chat about how we can use the sun in the most helpful way. I know I have said this before in multiple blogs, but when we put the sun directly behind us it causes us to have hard shadows on our individual’s faces. Now, I know those can be fixed in editing & something you honestly need to do that, but if you turn your individual a little and have the sunshine peeking over the shoulder it will give you a back light glow that is truly so beautiful. Use the sunshine to your advantage. Don’t be afraid to move around.

Tip #2 - Make your own shadows

Let’s say you have a couple in the middle of a field and it is full sunshine & you are like what do you do! If you will actually use the tallest person to cast shade on the other individual it will give you those pretty shadows & that sunshine peeking over their shoulders like we just talked about is absolutely gorgeous! The thing is you can always make your own shadows. Get creative. Fun funky poses also completely help with this one.

Tip #3 - Be mindful of the colors

So, you know when you are on a golf course and you are standing on the greens, & the grass is so short that it projects green on to you? Or when you are wearing a super neon outfit and it projects that color on your neck and face? These are the colors that are reflecting. A good tip to remember… The shorter the grass the more the sun will reflect and the taller the grass the more the grass will absorb the reflection. You can always fix these issues in editing, but be mindful of the colors that are reflected. Also, another good tip is to use concrete as a natural reflecting tool. It adds such a natural glow.

Just like on cloudy days you get to be 100% creative. & honestly there is not truly the easiest day to shoot, because all days require a little brain power, understanding, mindfulness & a tone of creativity. So, have fun and be creative. Plus enjoy the sunshine for what it gives us! & remember I always believe in you & love to see your creations!
