Tips For Bringing Family, Friends & Pups To Your Session

My number one question when someone inquires about a session is, “Can I bring ________?” The answer is always, yes! This is your session, but also your story to tell. If bringing any or all is going to help tell your story, I am all in. However, with bringing Family, Friends or Puppies there are some helpful tips that we can chat about.

Before we dive into details about each category let’s chat about all of them together.  Ok, let’s just say it, “This session is about you and your story.” Bringing family, friends or puppies are meant to add to your session, not take away from your session. At the end of the day this session is still all about you.

Family & Friends

I love when seniors ask if they can bring family &/or friends & here is why …. When you bring family or friends you are adding to your story. You are showing that they have been a part of your journey. Yes, we will get them in a photo, so if you bring family and friends make sure they are ready. Not only will family and friends show how they added to your story, but no one knows you better than them. So, yes bring them along & I promise I will be there to make sure the session stays about you and your story.

Tip for Family & Friends

  • Make sure they are dressed to be in photos.

  • Make sure they know the time and the date of your session

  • If they are meeting you at the session, make sure they know the location of where we will be shooting.

Puppies

OHHHHH I have never met a dog I did not like. Yes, please bring your dog to your session. Especially, if that sweet baby made an impact on the past few years. If you bring your puppy it is also helpful if you bring a family member or friend to help hold the dog while the dog is not in the photos, but my friend don’t worry your furry friend will be in plenty of photos & don’t be mad if they have single shots on their own.

Tips for Bringing Pets

  • Have someone come with you to hold the pet, while the pet is not in photos.

  • The pet’s leash.

  • Any treats that will help get the pet’s attention

  • Their favorite toy, if they are not into treats

  • Any small props that you would like to go with the pet. (A pet grad cap, a bandana or anything school spirit related.)

Yes, I mention pets, because I have totally had a cat before at a session.

I will never say never when you ask to bring your family, friends or puppy. It is just not in my nature, especially cause I have seen how they bring so much joy to a session. However, I have also seen how they can take away from the session. My end goal will always be you in mind. & I will always be there to make sure that this session is 100% about you and your story. But I do not have a good feeling about ending on a negative, so let’s talk about the joys of them being there.

  • They add to your story

  • They get to celebrate your accomplishments

  • They can help watch for anything that I might have missed or might be out of place

  • They can help you feel your most comfortable self

  • & so much more.

My Friend, this is your story and your session. & I am just so thankful that you are allowing me to be a part of the ride. What an absolute adventure. Just as much as I am thankful I get to be a part, I am sure your family, friends & puppies are pumped to be a part of your celebration as well. Like, always if you have any questions please let me know. I am always happy to help.
